Why are plumbers so expensive?  It is a question I’ve heard from clients before and the simple answer is… Well let’s answer that in a few paragraphs.  Plumbers charge according to the job that needs to be done for the most part.  Beware of companies and/ or technicians that charge by the hour, an hourly charge can end up running up a bill unnecessarily.  Every plumbing job has an specific value placed on it.  A faucet installation may go quickly or could be a nightmare, if a customer were paying by the hour that nightmare of a job could cost several hundreds of dollars.  A client who knows that price up front may be concerned at first but when all is said and done he or she may be getting the bargain price while the service technician dealt with the nightmare.

Plumbers are priceless for the same reason that  gas and water are priceless, supply and demand!  Every plumber should give an up front dollar amount to repair or service the fixture in question.  Every customer should have the opportunity to accept the price before any work begins.  After reaching that agreement (written or verbal) both the client and the service technician can be satisfied when the job is finished.  Satisfaction equals value, value equals good service and good service equals priceless satisfaction.

When unforeseen issues arise price is always the number one concern for everyone involved.   A good service technician will immediately advise his or her client before taking of n the challenge of a new issue and a good customer will want to negotiate the terms before sailing these uncharted waters.  Open communication is key to reaching an agreement; if a customer has questions they are always free to ask and the plumbers job is to answer those questions with the confidence that there is an end in sight.  The number in black at the bottom of a bill should never have a question mark behind it.  Give the price immediately, get the price immediately and decide wisely on whether or not the value placed on the repair is correct.

Which leads back to the beginning; why are plumbers so expensive?  Good service plumbers do just that, they provide a service.  That service has a value and value has a price.  Customers who are focused on dollars and cents may be overlooking the best service company in the world and may actually end up paying twice to three times more for the same repair that they rejected on numbers alone.  That leads them to the assumption that plumbers are expensive when in all actuality the plumbing repair could have been affordable and the service priceless.
